NESCAFÉ and KRUPS have joined forces to bring café culture into your home with NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto, a stylish, multi-coffee capsule system that will change the way you make, drink and think about coffee.
With 18 delicious varieties, NESCAFÉ Dolcé Gusto delivers coffee shop quality, whether you prefer a frothy cappuccino, shot of espresso, a multi-layered latte macchiato or an aromatic americano.
NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto combines the precision and technical perfection expected from KRUPS with excellent coffee, to create a must-have kitchen accessory for the busy modern lifestyle. Now in classic Black, the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Piccolo is a newer, more compact design than the original machine. It is also available in white and red. It may be small, but with the same 15 bar pressure as the original machine, it is powerful. The Piccolo features unique Thermoblock technology, which heats the water as required, ensuring fresh water for every cup. It has manual brewing, allowing you to control the amount of water you use.
The removable water tank makes it super easy to refill, and the removable drip tray makes it easy to keep looking pristine. A built-in magnet in the pod holder also makes the Piccolo extra safe to use.
The NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto system from KRUPS uses the kind of high pressure normally found in professional machines. Simply lift the lever, pull out the pod holder and pop in a specially-designed capsule of 100 per cent roast and ground arabica coffee. Push the holder back, press down the lever and you'll hear a pop. Move the knob to hot or cold and hey presto! Great tasting connoisseur coffee in a matter of seconds. You can even choose exactly how strong you want your cup - no hassle, no mess – which means you can relax and enjoy your favourite drink.

Customer Reviews
I am already the proud owner of the more traditional-looking Dolce Gusto - the one that people think looks like a duck. It's a couple of years old, but still going strong. I know the design has been updated a few times over the years, with little alterations here and there, but I've not looked closely at newer ones until this Piccollo arrived. It's clear that some advancements have indeed been made since I bought my old one, as the whole device somehow feels a bit more... solid? The water compartment fits in nicely and the pod-holder definitely is better than before. It's not a bad size really. Obviously not able to cope with as many drinks in a row without refilling as it's larger brethren.
I still found there to be a tendency as with my old machine to pause every so often when operating the hot water, as is well documented for a lot of "instant hot water" consumer devices. This allows the water to heat-up sufficiently again and not leave you with a very warm instead of hot brew.
The packaging of the device is quite snazzy, and there is a lot of information for how to use the device. It comes with 6 capsules, but what they fail to tell you on the outside is that those 6 capsules actually only equates to 4 drinks, as the Cappucino uses 2 capsules, the Latte Machiato uses 2 capsults, and then you get an Espresso and a Caffe Lungo which use one each. So in reality, a bit stingy there I think. They could at least offer you a sample of the Chococino and the Caffe Crema Grande, especially as the little samples box containing the pods shows you instructions on how to portion those drinks as well. I notice from the accompanying leaflet that there are a couple of other varieties available as well but only online.
Ultimately, it's a great little device and I think at the price it's not bad at all considering what I paid nearly 3 years ago. But then just like cheap inkjet printers, it's always with the consumables that they get you - Dolce Gusto pods are pricey. But if you can source them cheaply enough, that's all fair-and-well. I'm tempted to have a look at the Bosch Tassimo for my next coffee machine, as the pods appear cheaper - although the device itself is a lot more expensive.
All in all, it's a good device and I think it's well worth the price (at time of review). The pods could be cheaper and I suspect are the Achilles' heel of all such devices so if you can get over that then all well and good.
just about to buy my 2nd so I can have one at work :o) Handy also for just hot water using the little plastic tab.
